A natal chart contains too much information to read every symbol at once. A repeatable order keeps you focused on the chart’s strongest structural themes.

1. Confirm the birth data

Accurate birth time matters for the Ascendant, houses and many timing techniques. Treat uncertain birth times as uncertain data.

2. Start with the Ascendant and chart ruler

Identify the rising sign, its ruling planet, that planet’s sign and house, and its major aspects.

3. Read the Sun and Moon

Consider their signs, houses, dignity/condition where relevant, and major aspects.

4. Map the houses and planets

Look for angular emphasis, house concentrations and planets that repeatedly connect major areas of life.

5. Add aspects

Prioritize close major aspects before minor or very wide contacts.

6. Synthesize

Look for repeating themes. One isolated placement should rarely overpower testimony repeated across the chart.
